Carlene Smith Doody

Evelyn Carlene Doody, 87, passed away on June 3, 2024, in Alabama. Carlene was born in Toccoa, Georgia to the late Roy C. Smith and the late Bertha Dawkins Smith on May 3, 1937. Her family later moved to Atlanta where she was a 1955 graduate of Roosevelt High School. She worked for Coca-Cola before becoming a 59 ½ year employee of the Federal government, primarily with the Centers for Disease Control. She retired at the age of 83 after holding many Administrative Assistant positions at CDC. She enjoyed a long, active and successful career.

Surviving are her Daughter, Sister Patricia “Pat” Doody; Son, A.J. (Christl) Doody; Daughter-in-law, Denise (George) Weigner; Grandson, Joel (Erika) Doody; Granddaughter, Jonna (Drake) Hayes; Great- Grandchildren, Sara Doody, Savanna Doody, Lyla Beth Hayes, Henry Hayes and Steely Doody; Sister, Martha Hunter; Sister-in-law, Hilda Smith; Niece, Kim Cole; Great Nieces, Kristen (Scott) Glover, Kayla (Matt) Pacana and Kaci Cole.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Paul Doody; Son, Paul Francis “Buddy” Doody; Daughter, Carla Rey Doody; Parents, Roy and Bertha Smith; Brother, Sam Smith; Sister, Mary Nell Rudd; Brothers-in-law; Ed Hunter and Danny Rudd.

She will be remembered with love and appreciation for all those she helped and all that she gave to her family, friends and co-workers.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home, Clanton, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, please offer donations to Expect-Change.org.  Expect Change is an organization that helps bridge the gaps between needs, Community awareness, and education for families and care givers of people with Dementia and Memory care issues.
