Clara Crew Smith, age 90, of Clanton, Alabama, passed away February 12, 2015 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee. Clara was born in Cairo, Georgia, on August 18, 1924, to the late James Isaac Crew and Queenie Beatrice DeVaughn Crew. She was married to the late Chilton County Probate Judge George Douglas Smith for 57 years until his passing in 2003. Clara is survived by their three children Randall (Debbie White), Karen (Pat Moore) and Keith (Kathy Joiner); nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. A graduate of Chilton County High School, she spent the majority of her working years in public service at the Chilton County Courthouse. As a true southern matriarch, Clara was a strong and independent woman who was devoted to her family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alive Hospice located at 1718 Patterson Street in Nashville, Tennessee 37203. Visitation will take place at the Martin Funeral Home in Clanton on Monday, February 16, at 10 a.m. followed by the service in the chapel at 11 a.m. You may leave online condolences for the family on our website.
