Armstrong, 89, Of Clanton, Alabama formerly of Marion, Illinois passed away from complications from Congested Heart Failure and COPD at 8:45am, Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Chilton St. Vincent Hospital in Clanton, Alabama. Hoover was born August 7, 1928, in Jefferson County, AL., to the late Lee Roy Armstrong and Cora Bell Haynes Armstrong. He married Lavelle Grief in Paducah, Ky on August 8, 1953. Together they enjoyed almost 57 years of wedded bliss until her death in 2010. Hoover was a proud 1948 graduate of Chilton County High School where he enjoyed playing and lettering in football, basketball and baseball. He loved the monthly meeting at Kounty Kitchen of all of his former classmates. They were all very dear to him. Hoovers chosen profession was as an electrical lineman for over 44 years. He retired from Henkle and McCoy Electrical contractors and was member of Local 702 in West Frankfort, IL for almost 70 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict with the rank of Staff Sargent as well as being a member of VFW Post 1301 in Marion, Illinois. Hoover was the Patriarch of the Armstrong clan for the last 30 years. Surviving Hoover are his twin daughters, Elise Armstrong, of Clanton, AL and Denise Orso and husband Tony of Marion, IL; Grandson, Bart Orso and wife Noah of Marion, IL; granddaughter, Britta Johnson and husband Joey of Spring Hill, TN; great grandchildren, Gia Orso, Lenix Orso and Louie Orso of Marion IL.; and a host of nieces and nephews whom he cherished and loved very much. Preceding him in death were his wife, Lavelle G. Armstrong; parents, Lee Roy and Cora Bell Armstrong; sisters, Cleo Rogers, Hattie Lee Ward, and Imogene Brooks; brothers, Haynes Armstrong and Willard Armstrong. Hoover will be greatly missed by his family and many others who were lucky enough to know him. He was a fun loving man who would put a smile on your face or give you a chuckle. Hoover really loved life and what it had to offer him each day. He was an extreme lover of all animals and hardly was ever without a dog or cat around his home. He also enjoyed rooting for the Cubs baseball team even when they were losing but finally got to see them win the World Series in 2016. But his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life. Visitation will be at 1:30pm, June 1, 2018 with services following at 2:00pm at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton, Al, with Brother Jarrod Hood officiating.
