Jeanie Y. Jones

Jeanie Y. Jones passed away on June 11, 2020 at her home in Dallas, TX surrounded by family. She was born Yoshiko Nakamura in Kumagaya, Japan on December 31, 1928. She was the eldest daughter of seven children. She got her name Jeanie from her first employer. She met her husband Charles while working at Yokota AFB. After he was transferred back to the US, they kept in touch with letters. He was able to go back to Japan to marry her after volunteering to go to the Korean War where he delivered mail to the front lines. His helicopter was shot down twice. After more than a year waiting for permission from the US government, they were finally married on May 14, 1953. They traveled extensively for his duties in the Air Force. She was widowed in 1968 after Charles developed leukemia. She raised her two daughters while building her business of dog grooming. She learned her trade at a school in England after having trouble finding anyone to groom her poodle Tiny. Queen Elizabeth even petted Tiny and complimented Jeanie on having such a beautiful dog! She remained active after retiring. She bowled in a league in Prattville, AL. She occasionally traveled with her daughter Janice and her niece Linda. She moved to Dallas to live with family in 2017 after a stroke. She is survived by her daughter Janice, son-in law Albert, granddaughters Sophia and Katharine, niece Linda Wheat Field of Key Colony Beach, FL, sister-in-law Joyce Jones and niece Melanie Hall of Clanton, AL, Nephew Everett Jones, Jr. of Deatsville, AL, brother-in-law Melford (Cubby) Jones and niece Nancy Deliz of Oneonta, Al. A private service was held at Martin Funeral Home.
