Raymond Earl "Spence" Ray

March 28, 1931 — October 13, 2023



Raymond "Spence" Earl Ray was born on March 28, 1931 in Chilton County, Alabama, the sixth

of seven children born to Napoleon and Ivy Lowery Ray. He went to be with his Lord & Savior

Jesus Christ on October 13, 2023.


As a young teen he began a life of hard work with various jobs in sawmilling, highway construction, and the last 30 years of his working life at Saginaw Lime Plant, retiring at age 67.

He was a Faithful Member of Thompson Chapel Assembly of God Church for 64 years, serving at various times as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Trustee.

He loved farming, gardening, hunting, and attending church. He enjoyed sharing his harvest with others.


He married Jewel Dean Porter on April 3, 1954. He is survived by his Wife of 69 years, Jewel, Son, Charles Earl (Dawn) Ray, Grandson, Bradley Earl (Janet) Ray, Granddaughter, Elisabeth Anne (Ryne) Harrison, Great-Grandson, Cannon Ray, Great-Granddaughter, Landon Cate Ray, Great-Grandson, Jordan Ray.


He was preceded in death by his Father, Napoleon Ray, Mother, Ivy Ray, Brother, Duvard Ray, Brother, Tom Ray, Brother, Napoleon Ray, Jr., Sister, Gladys Price, Sister, Arletha Price, Sister, Tina Dawson, In-laws, Walter (Coot) & Mary Ann Porter.


Friends will be received Monday, October 16, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Thompson Chapel Assembly of God Church.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson Chapel Assembly of God Church with Rev. Mark Bolton and Rev. Thurmond Cleckler officiating.


Interment will follow in Midway Memorial Gardens, Jemison, Alabama.


Pallbearers will be Bradley Ray, Ryne Harrison, Wendell Ray, Ricky Porter, Howard Porter, and Freeman Ellison.
