Shirley Ann Farley Ousley passed away on January 24th, 2024, at age 89. Shirley was born in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up in the Woodlawn / East Lake area. The only daughter of Claude Elton Farley and Era (Gray) Farley. By the age of twelve she had lost both parents in separate accidents and was raised by her Aunt Bertha Farley. Shirley graduated from Woodlawn High School and began working for the Bell Telephone Company in billing. She was active in her church, 66th Street Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was married to her husband Bobby Gene Ousley of forty-one years on May 22, 1959, in that church.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband Bobby Gene, daughter Laura Elaine Ousley and son Steven Lee Ousley. She is survived by her sons Scott Elton Ousley and David Ray (Kelly) Ousley, and their children, Will and Caroline Ousley. Also, her daughter-in-law Dawn Warren (Steven) Ousley and their daughter, Rachel (Ian) Bumpas and their son Lee.
Shirley was actively involved in the activities of all of her children, from Wahouma Park, to family outings at Cascade Plunge Swim Club. She always happily volunteered to be Team Mom and coordinated fundraising activities as needed.
While raising her children, Shirley became a representative for Avon Cosmetics. She excelled in sales and received numerous awards for achieving and exceeding sales goals. She was also active in social and charitable causes. Past president of the Vestavia Hills-Hoover Business Professional Women, the Women's Junior Chamber of Commerce, Board Member of Freedom's Foundation, Salvation Army Auxiliary, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Audubon Society and the Clementines Chapter of the Red Hat Society where she attended the National Convention in Las Vegas. She participated as the organization created the World's Longest Kick-Line on the Las Vegas Strip.
She will be laid to rest in a small family graveside service beside her loving husband Bobby at Alpine Baptist Church in Chilton County, Alabama alongside many generations of the Ousley family. In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial donations to St. Jude Childrens Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee or the charity of your choosing.
One of her favorite scriptures was really her life motto. Philippians 4:13; King James Version
