Sue Crew Mims

October 19, 1932 — March 17, 2014

SUE CREW MIMS 10/19/32 - 03/17/14 At the age of 81 Sue Crew Mims departed her life on earth and began her eternal life in Heaven. She was predeceased by her parents Herman Grady Crew and Alma Crew Bryan; the father of her children Lawrence Mims; and her daughter-in-law Donna Siltanen Mims. She is survived by her two sons Michael Allen Mims of Atlanta and Jeffrey Cole Mims of Clanton; her only grandchild Jeonna Cole Mims Vironet (Doug) and her three precious great granddaughters Kindred, Lyric, and Rhythm; her two sisters Ruby Crew Ingram and Myrna Crew Scott; sister-in-law Helen Mims; nieces Brenda Reed, Camille Elliott, and Katrina Easterling; their children & grandchildren; Judith Ann Brown (Jeff's fianc) and many friends. Sue was born in Cooper, Al and was the oldest of three daughters. She attended elementary and high school in Clanton and was very proud to be part of the Class of 5l. After Mike and Jeff became school age she entered into the business world working at the John Deere dealership until long past retirement age. Sue was very civic minded and participated in countless clubs and community activities including First Female President of the Chamber of Commerce, Chilton County Auburn Club, Business and Professional Women, Race for the Cure and the formation of the YMCA organization in Clanton. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Clanton and loved "dressing up" her great grands and taking them with her to church every Sunday. When Sue thought she was past her prime she backed down on community projects but without slowing down started playing bridge and dominoes to occupy her time. She devoted a great deal of her time to family care and kept a bag packed to go whenever or wherever she was called. During the last 20 years of her life she survived breast cancer, thyroid cancer, mylodesplesia, pancreatitis and a broken hip & shoulder ending her days of independent living. As her physical body crumbled her spirit soared even higher! She never failed to smile or offer a kind word to any who knew her and all who knew her loved her. Funeral services provided by Martin Funeral Home and will be held there. Times: Wednesday, March, 19th, 2014 Visitation - 10:00 AM; Funeral 11:00 AM followed by a graveside service at the City Cemetary.
