Alton Landy GODBOLD, SR., 92, a longlife resident of Clanton for 55 years died Monday, August 10, 2009 at his residence. He was born on Thursday, January 25, 1917 in Franklin Co., Mississippi, Son of the late Cammie Norman Godbold and the late Demaris Walker Godbold. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Clanton, Lions Club, Methodist Men's Club, Founder of Pancake Day (which he never missed one). He had a Bachelors & Masters from Mississippi State University, he was a guidance counselor and Industrial Arts teacher there also and was a long time fan. He was a Special Agent with the FBI until he resigned to go into WWII.; a sales representative at Steck Vaughn Publishing Company. Surviving are his Wife, Mittie E. Godbold of Clanton, who he would have been married to for 64 years Sept. 14, 2009 AL; Son, A. Landy (Nancy) Godbold, Jr. of Smyra, GA; Daughter, Brenda K. Godbold of Clanton, AL; Grandsons, Brandon (Kim) Smith of Birmingham, AL, Brad (Amanda) Smith of Huntsville, AL, Doug (Katy) Godbold of Manassas Park, VA, David Godbold of Starkville, MS; Great-Grandson, Chance Smith of Birmingham, AL; Brother, Glendon H. Godbold of Clinton, MS; Numerous nieces & nephews. Friends will be received from 5-8, Wednesday, August 12, 2009 @ Martin Funeral Home Services will be held Thursday, August 13, 2009, at 10:00am. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Martin Memorial Cemetery, Clanton, AL The family request NO FLOWERS, donations to Clanton First United Methodist Church or Lions Club.
