Bette Jo Townsend Cofer

Bette Jo Townsend Cofer, 89, of Jemison, Alabama passed away peacefully September 11, 2022 at home surrounded by loved ones.

She was born February 25, 1933 in Carbon Hill, Alabama, daughter of the late Claude and Marie Glass.

Surviving are her Daughters, DeAnna (Neal) Clements, Doreen (Chase) Fell, Darlene Tums; Grandchildren, Jon (Meg) Clements, Allison (Billy) Powers, Van (Kristin) Clements, Holley Clements Precise, Blake Tums, Scott (Madison) Clements, Charles Albert Fell, IV; 9 Great-Grandchildren.

She attended Jemison High School and graduated from Alabama College with a Bachelor of Science Degree, a Masters of Education Degree from the University of Montevallo, and a Library of Science Degree from Samford University. She taught 26 1/2 years at Jemison High School as Senior English teacher and librarian.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, L.J. Cofer and Mother, Marie Sammons.

Friends will be received Wednesday, September 14, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jemison First Baptist Church.

Services will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Jemison First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Corey Clements and Terry Hill officiating.

Interment will follow in Midway Memorial Gardens, Jemison, Alabama.

The family wishes to acknowledge precious caregivers, Faye King, Janelle Malbrough, Judy Cleckler and nurses from Southern Care Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Big Oak Ranch; bigoak.org, 250 Jake Mintz Road, Gadsden, Alabama 35905.
