Betty Carol Porter Benson, 84, of Collins Chapel, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2026.
Betty was born March 25, 1941, in Alabama, the daughter of William Sidney Porter and Loretta Horton Porter.
The third of four children, Betty grew up north of Jemison where both sets of grandparents, Porter and Horton, lived on either side of her. She graduated from Jemison High School in 1959, where she met her high school sweetheart and dear husband of 67 years, Harry, on his first day at Jemison.
Betty and Harry have two dear sons, Stan and Brian. Their life together took them to Arab, Alabama and Fayetteville, North Carolina following Harry’s career in the chemical business. Betty worked various jobs throughout her life and was a very talented seamstress, often making her own clothes, and her number one priority always remained Harry and their family.
In 1998 after 30 years in North Carolina, they returned to their roots in Collins Chapel, Alabama. Upon their ‘retirement’ they could be found working on their farm or enjoying sitting on the corner porch of their dream home overlooking their pecan orchard.
Ever a kind woman, Betty prided herself on doing the right thing, taking care of her family, and being a good friend, always quick to welcome those closest to her into her home. She enjoyed spending time on their farm, visiting with family and friends, making chocolate pecan turtles, pecan pie, or canning vegetables from their garden for friends and grandchildren. Betty’s life is one of a devoted Christian, loving wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a trusted friend and neighbor.
Betty is survived by her two sons, Stan (Susan) Benson of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Brian (Ann) Benson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; six dear grandchildren Matt (Myriam) Benson, Shelby (Matt) Mildenberg, Kelsey Benson, John Benson, Luke Benson, and James (Nichelle) Benson; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Harry Eugene Benson; Father, William Sidney Porter; Mother, Frances Loretta Horton Porter; and Siblings, Sydney Ann Wyatt, Lewis Aurbon Porter, and Kenney Carl Porter.
“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” Philippians 3:20-21
