Betty Jones Mercer

Betty Jones Mercer, 93, of Verbena, Alabama went to her heavenly home Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

She was born July 15, 1930, in Chilton county, Alabama, the daughter of the late Calvin E. and Martha Ellen Jones.

Betty worked until her retirement as a Program Loan Administrator for the US Department of Agriculture for over 32 years. In addition, She worked for the Alabama State Department of Labor for many more years. She was a member of Chestnut Creek Baptist Church & Verbena Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling, attending bluegrass festivals, gardening and spending time with her beloved family with whom she provided a huge positive impact. She was an incredibly devoted mother who dedicated her life to caring for her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her son, Alan Scott McCrory; daughters, Melissa Mercer Brown (Doug), Melanie Mercer Johnson (David); sister, Voncile Jones Driver; grandsons, Kevin W. McCrory (Tabatha), Cory McCrory (Emily), Hunter S. Brown; granddaughters, Hailey N. Brown, April Potts; great-grandson, Rayce McCrory; and great-granddaughter, Ashlynn McCrory.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Mercer; parents, Calvin E. Jones, and Martha E. Jones; son, Edward Wayne McCrory.

The family will receive friends at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hoyt Chastain officiating. Graveside services will follow at Chestnut Creek Baptist Cemetery in Verbena, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, one can make a donation to the American Kidney Fund, Kids with a Purpose in Clanton, Al or the Chestnut Creek Baptist Church in Verbena, Al in memory of Ms. Betty Jones Mercer.
