Billy D. Smith

Billy D. Smith, 88, peacefully entered his eternal rest Saturday, July 26, 2025, at his home in Clanton, Alabama, surrounded by family. He was born on Saturday, September 12, 1936 in Chilton County, Alabama. Billy was a hardworking, skilled electrician employed by Alabama Power Company and working for himself for over a combined 50 years. He served in the Alabama Army National Guard, receiving an Honorable Discharge in February of 1957. Billy traveled the country and the world making many wonderful memories with his wife of 69 years, Gayle Gray Smith, and his family. He loved to tell stories about his experiences working and traveling. He was always eager to share his knowledge about the multitude of things he learned along the way. Billy will be dearly missed by those that knew him best and the impression he made will always be fondly felt. He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. Smith and Tiny Lee Varden Smith and his younger sister, Ruby Smith Neeley. He is survived by his wife Gayle Gray Smith, daughter Sheila Hucks, granddaughter Alicia Eason (husband, Larry J. Eason II), grandson Channing Hucks, and many, many dear friends.

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, visitation will be held from 10:00AM - 11:00AM, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Clanton, Alabama. Immediately following the visitation, funeral services will be held at 11:00AM in Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Kenneth Moates officiating. Billy will be laid to rest at Martin Memorial Cemetery, Clanton, Alabama, with a short graveside service officiated by Heath Vines.

Pallbearers will be Channing Hucks, Larry J. Eason II, Robert Dubois, Tyler Dubois, Wade Wilmeth, Todd Vickers.
