Carolyn G. Brooks

Carolyn Gurley Brooks, 79, of Thorsby, Alabama passed away February 5, 2026, at her residence in Thorsby, AL. 

She was born May 29, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of the late John Gurley Jr. and the late Dorothy Gurley. 

A proud native of Ensley, Alabama, she was a graduate of Ensley High School. The lessons and love she learned there shaped the devoted woman she became - one who treasured her family above all else. She deeply loved her family and cherished every moment spent together. Her greatest joy in life was being surrounded by those she loved most. She was also a dedicated dental hygienist at ACIPCO, where she began her career on May 3, 1971. Through many years of faithful service, she touched countless lives with her kindness and professionalism before retiring on January 1, 2006. 

Surviving are her Sons, Kenneth "Ken" (Kristi) Brooks, Scott (Cyndi) Brooks; Sister, Marilyn (Roger) Garrett; Grandchildren, Taylor Brooks, Madison Brooks, Dalton Brooks, Lexie Brooks; Great-Grandchildren, Luke Lewis, Brooks Lewis, Kashton Brooks; A host of nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her Parents, John & Dorothy Gurley; Husband, Dennis Brooks. 

Graveside services will be held , February 7, 2026, at 11:30 am. at Midway Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tony Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Midway Memorial Gardens, Jemison, Alabama.
