Charles Jefferson Higgins, 73, of Palm Bay, Florida died Monday, January 3, 2011 in Melbourne, Florida. He was born on Wednesday, February 3, 1937 in Shelby, Alabama, Son of the late Arter Higgins and the late Edna Connell Higgins. He was a Bridge Builder for the Shelby County Highway Dept. Surviving are his Wife, Edna W. Higgins; 2 Sons, Ricky Gulledge of Prattville, AL, Bruce (Carol) Higgins of Montevallo, AL; Daughter, Wanda Kay Smith (Jose Martinez) of Calera, AL; 5 Grandchildren, Shannon Gulledge, Brad (Barbara) Gulledge, Bridget (Nathan) Sanders, Ashley (Edgar) Castellanos, Westley Smith; Great-Grandchildren, Heather, Heaven, Chloe, Courtney, Mason, Hannah, Louis & Valeria; Great-Great Grandchild, Colton; 2 Sisters, Bonnie (Johnny) Schrader, Jean Etress & Jewel (John) Henderson. He was preceded in death by Parents: Arter & Edna Connell Higgins, 3 Brothers: J. R., Oscar & Homer Higgins. Friends will be received from 6-8, Thursday, January 6, 2010 at Martin Chapel.. Services will be held Friday, January 7, 2011, at 1:00 pm. at Martin Chapel with Rev. Rodger Hamaker officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Creek Cemetery, Shelby, Alabama.
