Charles "Boonie" Calvin Hughes, 89, of Verbena died Saturday, May 24, 2014. He was born on Monday, March 2, 1925 in Montgomery, Alabama, Son of the late James F. Hughes and the late Gladys H. Tucker. He retired from Maxwell AFB Civil Service. He spent his retirement, enjoying his garden and helping others in the community. Boonie spent his life serving the Lord, his country and his family. His love for his wife, daughters, granddaughters and great-grandchildren was exhibited every day of his life. Surviving are Wife, Dora Lee Hughes of Verbena, AL; Daughters, Carolyn (Sonny) Hudson of Verbena, AL, Sandra Driver of Verbena, AL; Granddaughters, Tammy (Art) McDow of Tallassee, AL, Jennifer (Robby) Davis of Alabaster, AL, Megan (Avery) Dale of Verbena, AL; Great-Grandchildren, Will, Summer, Chase & Daniel McDow, Maddie Staggs, Sophie Davis, & Emma Kate Dale; Nieces & Nephews; Half-Sister, Johnnie (Roger) Dennis of Phoenix City, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, James F.Hughes & Gladys H. Tucker, Brothers, James F. "Red" Hughes, Jr. and Billy George Hughes. Friends will be received from 10-11, Monday, May 26, 2014 @ Martin Funeral Home Chapel.
