Charles (Lazy Loafer) Marcus McGalliard, born on February 26, 1934 in Chilton County, Alabama crossed the Jordan River into the arms of His Lord and Savior on May 19, 2025 surrounded by his loving wife of 73 years, Florine (Flo) and their family.
He was a Sunday School teacher at Indian Grave Baptist Church where he was a member for 63 years. He loved serving in the church, but his greatest work was making sure his family knew Jesus.
Charles also worked as a machinist for Continental Gin Company for 35 years as well as other companies. He and Flo enjoyed retirement by traveling around the country in their RV and vacationing with their children and friends, but his favorite place was the Smokies. He loved working with his tractor around the house as well as fishing and taking a ride on his pontoon boat. He could be found sitting, sometimes sleeping, in his shooting house during deer season or pushing a grandchild out of the chair to get a shot on a deer.
He is preceded in death by his parents Elex Calvin “E.C.” McGalliard and Nancy Cordelia “Cordie” Bates McGalliard, brothers Otis (Dorthy), James (Elizabeth), Calvin (Myrtle), Jack (Mittie), Lee (Mavis), Marion (Mary), Theodore “Buck”, his sisters Dorothy Ann (Bruce) Ballard, Beatrice (Ralf) Jackson, Bessie (Elvin) Howell, and Bell (Horace) Headley.
He is survived by his wife Flo, sons Randall (Frankie) of Marbury, Curtis (Charlotte) of Prattville, Allen of Verbena, and daughter, Wanda (Greg) Clark of Moss Point, Ms. Charles was loved dearly by his grandchildren Heath (Candi) McGalliard, Chase (Wendy) McGalliard, Amanda (Chris) Dickey, Kenneth (Sam) McGalliard, Randall (Heather Dene’) Clark, Rick (Samantha) McGalliard, Heather (David) Lilly, Jennifer (Ronnie) Smith, Katie (Billy) Hill, and Braxton McGalliard, 29 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren as well as the many dear friends and church family.
The family would like to thank the great and compassionate caretakers from Baptist Hospice during his illness. Though he will be greatly missed, his family rejoices in knowing that he is sitting at the feet of Jesus where there is no more pain or suffering.
Pallbearers will be Heath McGalliard, Chase McGalliard, Kenneth McGalliard, Randall Clark, Rick McGalliard, Braxton McGalliard, George Cooke, and Glenn Cooke. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Lilly, Chris Dickey, Ronnie Smith, and Billy Hill.
