Charles Richard Payton, 81, of Verbena died Sunday, December 17, 2017 at his residence. He was born on Wednesday, August 5, 1936 in Clanton, AL, son of the late Odell Payton and the late Leither Powell Payton. He was an attorney. Surviving are his Wife, Juanita Payton of Verbena, AL; Daughters, Cheryl Crisona (Dr. Frank Crisona, Jr.) of Arab, AL, Cynthia Pate of Arab, AL; Grandsons, Kevin Pate of Denair, CA, Dr. Frank Crisona, III of Augusta, GA; Granddaughter, Laura Pate of Memphis, TN; Brother, Bruce Payton (Helen) of Clanton, AL; Niece, Angel Knight (Michael) of Clanton, AL. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Brett Payton. Friends will be received from 12-1 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Martin Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Chapel with Rev. Randall Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Chestnut Creek Baptist Cemetery, Verbena, AL.
