Doris Jones

Doris Jones, 87, died March 13th 2023 in Fairfax Virginia.  Doris was born on October 24, 1935 in Birmingham, Alabama, and grew up in Selma.  She held degrees from Samford University, the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and the University of Alabama.  She was a social worker and worked for a number of years as the director of the Chilton County Department of Human Resources where she was devoted to her work and colleagues.  She was an active member of civic life in Clanton, serving as president of the Chilton County Pilot Club, participated in the local senior exercise club and together with her husband Tommy, acted in and directed a number of local theater productions.  She taught Sunday school for many years at her church Liberty Hill Baptist.  In recent years she lived in Alexandria Virginia and Washington DC to be close to her grandchildren.  Doris was preceded in death by her father, Irving Manly Green, mother Lillie Mae Green (Walker), Sister Dorothy Langland, brother Charles and husband John Thomas Jones.  She is survived by her son, Irving, grandchildren Langston, Colin and Lucinda, daughter in law Amy as well as her nieces Mina and Charlene and nephews Erle, Elton, Lars, and Conrad Langland.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  Visitation will be at Liberty Hill Baptist Church on Monday, March 20 from 10:00 - 11:00. The funeral will begin at 11:00.
