Doris “Dada” Smith Schroeter, 83, passed away on June 8, 2026.
Doris was born on March 30, 1943, in Thorsby, Alabama, to Henry Herschel Smith and Hilma “Polly” Smith.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert Fredrick Schroeter III; her parents; and her grandson, Matthew Taylor Schroeter.
She is survived by her son, Kurt Fredrick Schroeter (Audra); daughter, Julia Schroeter Aho (Clay); son, Mark Herschel Schroeter (Sarah); grandchildren, Karson Schroeter, Caroline Schroeter, Camden Schroeter, Connor Schroeter, Clayton Aho, Brandt Aho, and Anna Aho; sister, Julia Smith Wood; nephews, Bart Wood and Kristopher Wood; and extended family.
Doris was a graduate of Judson College. Following graduation, she married Herbert Fredrick Schroeter III, and together they raised their three children. A longtime member of Green Valley Baptist Church, Doris was devoted to her family, friends, and faith. She possessed a true servant’s heart and found joy in caring for others. Whether offering encouragement, support, or simply a listening ear, she made those around her feel loved and valued.
Known as “Dada,” Doris found her greatest joy in her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were one of her greatest joys, and she cherished every moment with them. She also enjoyed birthday lunches with longtime friends, coffee gatherings with neighbors, and loved spending time with her beloved sister, Julia, in Thorsby.
Dada loved everyone she knew and brought joy wherever she went. She was the heart and soul of her family, and her memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
“Her children rise up and call her blessed. "Proverbs 31:28
One of Dada's favorite Bible verses was John 14:2–4:
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
Visitation will be Friday, June 12,2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Green Valley Baptist Church, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. and a private family graveside service.
