Dorothy Roberts Dot Roper

Dorothy "Dot" Roberts Roper, 93, of Clanton died Sunday, March 2, 2014. She was born on Saturday, August 14, 1920 in Roanoke, AL, Daughter of the late Rev. Jesse H. Roberts and the late Vernie Coleman Roberts. She graduated from Bob Jones College in 1942; took a teaching position in Dadeville, AL. She enlisted in the Navy on June 17, 1943; served as a weather forecaster during the war; and was honorably discharged at the end of WWII. She moved to Birmingham where she met Henry Roper. They were married on June 6, 1948. The couple moved to Clanton in 1954, and the Dalton children came to live with them in 1957. Dot worked for the ASC office until she took a teaching position with the Chilton County School System. She received a M.A.T. degree in counseling and guidance in 1962 from the University of Montevallo, and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Alabama in 1974. She was Counselor at Chilton County High School until she retired in 1980. One of her great joys was serving as sponsor for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Dot was also actively involved in First United Methodist Church. Surviving are her Daughter, Cordelia "Dee" Poulos of Mobile, AL; Sons, Jerry (Nancy) Dalton, Alvin (Martha) Dalton, Rev. Perry (Anne) Dalton all of Clanton, AL, Rev. Ralph Eugene (Doris) Dalton of Mobile, AL; Numerous Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren, Nieces & Nephews. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Henry Roper; Father & Mother, Rev. & Mrs. Jesse H. Roberts; Brother, Rev. Jesse Roberts; Sister, Frances Shirley. Friends will be received from 12-2, Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Clanton First United Methodist Church . Services will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Clanton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Anderson and Rev. Robert West officiating. Interment will follow in Martin Memorial Cemetery, Clanton, AL. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Clanton First United Methodist Church Prayer Ministry. Martin Funeral Home directing.
