Elmer Glenn Mathews, Sr.

Elmer Glenn Mathews, Sr., 91, of Verbena, Alabama passed away April 20, 2021 at his residence. He was born February 11, 1930 in Montgomery, Alabama, son of Curtis Mathews and Elizabeth Bell Mathews. He was a Welding Inspector for Hayes Aircraft and Rust Engineering. Mr. Mathews served in World War II and received an Honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his Granddaughter, Stacie (Stephen) Patterson; Grandsons, Seth Glenn Mathews, John (Amber) Mathews; Great-Granddaughters, Kayla Patterson, Gabrella Montoya, Carolina Montoya; Great-Grandsons, Tanner Handley, Michael Patterson, Logan Patterson, Tucker Patterson, Anthony Mathews; Great-Great-Granddaughter, Cabela Handley; Great-Great-Grandson, Waylon Handley. He was preceded in death by his Wife, Mavis Dean Mathews; Father, Curtis J Mathews; Mother, Elizabeth Mathews; Son, Elmer Glenn Mathews, Jr. Friends will be received Friday, April 23, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 23, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Chestnut Creek Baptist Cemetery, Verbena, Alabama. Interment to follow. Martin Funeral Home directing.
