Frances Jeanette Deason, 87, of Thorsby, Alabama passed away February 6, 2026, at her son’s home, where she was being lovingly cared for during her final illness. She was born August 3, 1938 in Chilton County, Alabama to the late Leon Melton and Eula Mae Melton.
She met James Clyde Deason in 1954 and they were married that same year. Together, they built a life that produced two sons and continued for 63 years until his death. During this time, they lived in Selma before eventually settling in Clanton, Alabama in 1970. Jeanette worked as a store manager at Bargain Town in Clanton for 20 years, where her strong work ethic resulted in her being named manager of the year.
Jeanette’s two great loves were her family and her faith. When her first son was born, she made a change that is still resonating today. She made a commitment to do everything in her power to ensure her children would grow up to know, love and serve Jesus. She faithfully attended Water Avenue Baptist in Selma and later Mt. Pleasant Baptist in Clanton, making sure her children were there every time the doors were open. She was a faithful worker, teaching Sunday School as well as Vacation Bible School, demonstrating to her children that her faith was real in the church, in the home and in the community. Later, she moved her membership to Liberty Hill Baptist and spent the last 35 years of her life faithfully serving there. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who called her Maw Maw. She would play with them, take them for walks or golf cart rides through the woods and teach them about Jesus.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Deason (Lisa) and Phillip Deason (Tina). She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Kelsey Fincher (Josh) and John Deason (Lindsey), step-grandson James Martin Matsko and by her seven great-grandchildren, Jack Fincher, Sam Fincher, Olivia Fincher, Parker Fincher, Charlotte Deason, Emmett Deason and Lucy Deason. Also surviving is her sister, Becky McDaniel.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Clyde Deason, parents, Leon Melton and Eula Mae Melton, her three brothers Carl Odell Melton, Eleon Melton, Jerell Melton, and her five sisters, Marie Lucas, Violet Langston, Tressa Daughdrill, Ann Edwards, and Barbara Barnhill.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Clanton, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at 11:00 am, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Clanton, Alabama with the Reverend Kent Dodson officiating. Graveside service to follow.
