Gail Stankard Sharman
October 24, 1951 — April 10, 2026
With heavy hearts and a deep sense of loss, we announce the passing of Gail Stankard Sharman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this world peacefully at her home on April 10, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. She was 74 years old.
Gail was born on October 24, 1951, in Anniston, Alabama, to Eva Bell and James Ray. From a young age, Gail displayed a zest for life and a kindness that would define her character throughout her years. She attended Anniston High School, where she cultivated a love for sports and education, a passion that led her to Montevallo University. There, she earned a Master’s Degree in Physical Education, setting the stage for a fulfilling career dedicated to teaching and mentoring young minds.
For 25 years, Gail devoted herself to her role as a PE teacher at Adair Middle School. Her engaging spirit and commitment to her students were evident in her involvement with the Special Olympics and cheerleading programs. In parallel, she spent another 25 years as a water aerobics instructor at Cornerstone Fitness and Wellness, where she inspired all who crossed her path with her boundless energy and infectious enthusiasm.
On August 8, 1993, in Clanton, Gail married the love of her life, George “Sonny” Thomas Sharman III. Together, they shared 33 wonderful years, raising three children and building a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Her family was her pride and joy, and she reveled in every moment spent with her children Sam (Mary) Sharman, Ginger Sharman, and Marcie (Brad) Dickerson, as well as her treasured grandchildren Nancy Kay, Josh, Alex, Owen, and Evan.
Beyond her family and career, Gail was an avid golfer and cherished her ladies’ golf trips and bridge club gatherings. She found peace and joy tending to her garden, where she could often be found with her husband by her side. A dedicated member of the First Methodist Church of Clanton, Gail served her community with grace and compassion, always offering a helping hand and a warm smile.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Gail will remember her for her positive attitude, her generosity, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her kindness touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
A service to honor and celebrate Gail’s life will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026. Family and friends will be received at 12:00 PM for visitation with a service beginning at 1:00PM at the First Methodist Church of Clanton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Methodist Church of Clanton General Memorial or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, causes that were dear to Gail’s heart.
