Garry Lajohn Jones, 79, of Thorsby, Alabama passed away May 26, 2026, at his residence after a lengthy illness.

He was born April 1, 1947, in Greenville, Alabama, son of the late Howard Jones and the late Lois Jones.

Garry had a long career in education and industry. He was a principal and coach at several schools, and ended his career as a beloved science teacher to many at Clanton Middle School. He also started working as a teenager at Union Camp in Chapman, AL and later returned to the lumber business as Plant Supervisor for Union Camp in Thorsby, AL.

Garry was as avid outdoorsman, starting as a young man hunting near his family home in Chapman after school. He loved to be in the woods hunting or just observing nature. He fished Lay Lake for decades and would have been happy sitting on the banks of the river all day long.

Garry graduated from University of South Alabama, and also received a Master’s Degree in Education.

Surviving are his Wife, Peggy Jones; Daughters, Michelle (David) Hart, Melissa (Kevin) Perry; Son, Michael (Gennie) Jones; Grandchildren, Corey Hart, Kendall Perry, Karson Perry, Dean Jones; Sister, Carol (James) Gilmore; and many other family.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Howard Jones; Mother, Lois Jones; Sister, Sandra Jones.

Friends will be received Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Thorsby Memorial Cemetery. Interment will follow.
