Hazel Dean (Blankenship) Knee 88, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away on July 9, 2024, at her home in Wetumpka, Alabama.
Hazel was born November 22, 1935, in Wetumpka, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Archie and the late Mattie (White) Blankenship.
Hazel was a homemaker for many years and then worked for the Elmore County Tax Assessors office. She loved to be outdoors working in her yard, cutting grass, spending time with her family, and watching the birds out her window. She was a “mom” to everyone!
Hazel was married to her husband, Donald Eugene Knee for 50 years before he passed in 2006. They married on December 26, 1955, at Hazel’s family home in Wetumpka. They then moved to Marion, Indiana. She was the mother to two children Deborah Jean (Knee) Chastain and Jeffery Dean Knee. They lived in Indiana for years and then returned to Wetumpka, Alabama.
Hazel is preceded in death by her father Archie Blankenship, and her mother Mattie (White) Blankenship. Her husband Donald Eugene Knee, her sisters, Carie Nell Gilliland Morrow and Lola Womble, and sister-in-law Patsy Blankenship, brother-in-laws Cleyon Gilliland, John Morrow, and Jim Womble.
Hazel is survived in death by her daughter Deborah (Hoyt) Chastain, son Jeff Knee; grandchildren, Jimmy (Julia) Chastain, Shannon (Blake) Woodfin, Kimberly (Daniel) Justice, Katherine (Jake) Williams, Haley (Jeff) Andrews, and Sam Knee; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Bennie (Patricia) Blankenship; a host of nieces, and nephews.
Visitation and Service will be held at New Home Baptist Church in Wetumpka, Alabama on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
Friends will be received at 1:30-2:30. Service at 2:30 p.m. with Bro. Hoyt Chastain officiating.
