Homer Eugene Ousley was born on December 20, 1944 at his home in Bessemer, Alabama. He went home to be with the Lord on September 22, 2024 at 8:05 pm at his home in Clanton, Alabama surrounded by his family. He was 79 years old. He went to school at Billingsley High School and graduated in 1964. Gene began his career at Alabama Power Company in 1967 and retired in 2009. He was a foreman in transmission line construction. He served in the Army National Guard. He married Brenda Childress in 1969. They had three children: Kim, Sonya, and Brian. Gene was a member at West End Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon in 1986 and served his church faithfully throughout his life.
Homer Eugene Ousley is preceded in death by his father Bruce Ousley, mother Edna Ousley, brothers Bill Ousley, Joe Ousley, Danny Ousley, Charles Ousley, and sister Martha Ousley. He is survived by his wife Brenda Ousley, daughter Kim (Danny) Kirkland, daughter Sonya (Heath) Gray, and son Brian (Renee) Ousley; grandson Ryan (Lydia) Kirkland, granddaughter Rebekah (Jordan) Anderson, granddaughter Amanda Gray, granddaughter Hallie Ousley, grandson Hunter Ousley, grandson Mac Ousley; great granddaughter Hayden Collins, and great grandson Liam Kirkland. He is also survived by brothers James Ousley and Wayne (Libby) Ousley, sisters Mary (Tony) Nichols, Brenda (John) Mickler, Edna (Billy) Hester and a whole host of nieces and nephews.
Gene was a man of integrity, full of faith, and had a very deep love for family. He lived a life characterized by faithful service to those around him, starting especially with his family, but extending outward to his church, his work, and his community. Gene lived his life by the golden rule found in Matthew 7:12, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 pm at West End Baptist Church and funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 9:00 am at West End Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to West Baptist Church’s Building Fund. Donations can be mailed to 2005 2nd Avenue North, Clanton, AL 35045.
