Horace Denson Wood

A Celebration of Life for H. Denson (Denny) Wood will be held at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton on Saturday, September 3, 2022. Visitation will be at 10:00 with the service following at 11:00. Rev. Travis Barnes will officiate.  A private interment will be at Martin’s Cemetery in Clanton.

Mr. Wood was a native of Clanton and was born on November 12, 1940. He was the last surviving child of the union of Wallace Wood and Grace Williams Wood. He is preceded in death by his parents and his six siblings, Samuel Irby Wood, Kathleen Wood, Frances Wood Chancellor, Mabel Wood Jones, Jerome Wood, and Roy Wood.  He is survived by his nieces, Linda Wood Maurer, Rebecca Jones Barnes (Travis), and Jenelle Jones Gustaffson (Marten) and his nephew, Kermit Jones (Suzette).  He is also survived by several great and great-great nieces and nephews.  He also leaves behind a host of special friends.

Mr. Wood was a music educator serving in schools in Alabama and South Georgia.  He also served as Director of Music at West End Baptist Church in Clanton, at First Baptist Church of Clanton, at First Baptist Church of Bessemer, at First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald, Georgia, at Grace United Methodist Church in Birmingham and at East Minster Presbyterian Church in Birmingham.  Mr. Wood was a member of First United Methodist Church in Birmingham.

Mr. Wood retired from Jefferson State Community College after 30 years as a music educator.  He moved to Clanton after his retirement and resided there for several years.
