He was born on Thursday, November 1, 1928 in Mississippi, Son of the late Walter Hammond and the late Ellar Braswell Hammond. He was a retired Farmer. Surviving are 2 Daughters, Debbie (Thomas) Athey of Phenix City, AL, Donna (Richard) Babin of Maplesville, AL; 2 Grandchildren, Rebecca Athey (Brad) McClellan of Daphne, AL, Dakota Babin of Maplesville, AL; Great-Grandchild, Thomas McClellan of Daphne, AL; 3 Brothers, Charles, Tommy & Johnny Smitherman all of Maplesville, AL; 3 Sisters, Pat Freeman, MS, Ina Scott of Verbena, AL, Lily Mills of Maplesville, AL. He was preceded in death by his Wife, Ruth Lenoir Hammond; Brothers, Allen & Calvin Smitherman; Sister, Willie C. Bush. Friends will be received from 5-7 pm, Saturday, Apr. 5, 2014 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held Sunday, April 6, 2014, at 2:00 pm. at Graveside with Rev. Lynn Roeofficiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel #2 Cem., Maplesville, AL. Martin Funeral Home directing.
