James D. Martin

June 11, 1937 — July 9, 2014

James Darvis Martin, 80, met his beloved wife at Heaven's Gate on the morning of July 9, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at Columbus Hospice in Georgia. Mr. Martin was born to Leonard & Euna Martin on June 11,1934 in Jemison, Alabama. Mr. Martin served with the United States Air Force Reserve and received The National Defense Service Medal in his role during the Korean War. After serving in the United States Military he came home to Alabama where he moved to Montgomery and married his wife, Patricia Martin in 1958. Their daughter, Patricia Leni Martin was born March 9, 1978 in Montgomery, Alabama. He went to work for Appleton Wire Works in Montgomery where he worked until he retired after 30 years when his first grandson was born. Mr. Martin enjoyed fishing, hunting and horse shows with his family. When his grandchildren came along his passions became them. Wether it was traveling to watch them play baseball or traveling to watch them compete in rodeos. Mr. Martin also had a fierce passion for The Alabama Crimson Tide and Atlanta Braves. He could often be heard yelling at the TV during football and baseball seasons. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents Leonard & Euna Martin, brothers Whit & Hoyt Martin, his sister Myrtice Castle and his beloved wife of 52 years Patricia Martin in 2010. Mr. Martin is survived by his daughter and son in law, Dell & Leni Gamble of Hamilton, GA, grandsons Trey & Kobe Bunting, Christopher Martin, Bayley Bass and Noah Gamble. Also his sister Evelyn Deavers. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to his grand children's favorite organizations that they feel deeply about. Hudson Family Foundation & Alabama Junior Rodeo Association. The family would like to thank everyone for their kind words of encouragement in their time of grief, Brother Rick Evans & Vicky Staley for standing by Mr. Martin in his last minutes on Earth and Columbus Hospice for making Mr. Martin's last hours in life comfortable and easy on his loving family. Graveside service will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Union Grove Community Cemetery with Rev. Rick Evans officiating. Martin Funeral Home directing.
