James Lewis "Jack" Hampton, Sr.

November 25, 1924 — December 10, 2024

James Lewis Hampton, Sr "Jack", 100, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 while a resident at Bibb County Nursing Home.

He was born November 25, 1924, in Alabama, son of William Hampton and Delene Hampton.

Jack grew up in Maplesville, Alabama and was a resident of his hometown for his entire life. After graduating from high school in 1942, Jack entered Auburn University to major in engineering. After just 1 semester, he entered the Navy to serve his country during WWII. After his service, he returned to Maplesville to begin his love story with the love of his life, Marcelle, whom he married in 1948 and would celebrate 70 wonderful years together. Jim, their son, came in 1951 and their daughter, Anna Marcia, came in 1955. Jack and Marcelle cherished their children and made lots of memories with them, their spouses, and their granddaughter, Jessica.

Jack was blessed with a long, healthy active life until his health recently declined, which limited his activity. He entered long term care in August of this year. His Heavenly Father called him home on Tuesday evening, and we know he heard, "Well done good and faithful servant."  Soon afterwards, without a doubt, he heard his love, Marcelle, in an excited and thankful tone to her voice say, "Jack! What took you so long?!"

He was a Rural Letter Carrier.

Surviving are his Daughter, Anna Marcia (Smitty) Smitherman; Granddaughter, Jessica Hampton Sneed; Nieces, Val Hampton (Andy) Hunter, Sara Cook, Lea Tidmore, and Debra Tate; Nephews, Charles "Bubba" (Demisha) Stough, Dana (Rosemary) Folsom, and Don Folsom; Sister-in-Law, Maxine Stough; Special Cousins, Tom Watson (Kathy), Mary Ann (Charles) Pitts; a host of other family.
