James Lowell Harris

James Lowell Harris, 86, of Clanton, Alabama passed away May 23, 2021 at St. Vincent's Chilton, Clanton, AL. He was born July 25, 1934 in Sylacauga, Alabama, son of Lowell Clarence Harris and Sally Marie Neeley Harris. He retired from Interstate Brands Corporation as a Merita Bread salesman and was known affectionately by everyone as “The Bread Man”. He was a quiet man who willingly served others starting with his family and then his church. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ first and foremost. He served 1st Baptist Church as an ordained Deacon for many years and was recognized as Deacon Emeritus. The love of his life was his wife Peggie with whom he celebrated 68 years of marriage on May 18, 2021. The Joy of his life was his children and grandchildren and great grandson Paxton to whom he was known as “PapPa”. He was a hard worker who could be trusted to take care of the business at hand. He served his local community as a member of the Clanton Lions club for many years. He was an avid fan for the Alabama Crimson Tide “ROLL TIDE”. He held season tickets to the football games and every Saturday during football season could be found following the Tide. Surviving are his Wife, Peggie Scott Harris; Daughter, Ramona Charlene (Roger) Yeargan; Daughter-in-law, Glenda Dorriety Harris; Sister, Martha Elaine Crumley; Granddaughters, Oakley Rexanna Yeargan, Keeley Raeanna Yeargan, Andrea Nicole Harris; Great-Grandson, Paxton Harris Yeargan. He was preceded in death by his Father, Lowell Clarence Harris; Mother, Sally Marie Neeley Harris; Son, Riley Bernard “Benny” Harris. Friends will be received Monday, May 24, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton. Services will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Clanton First Baptist Church with Bro. Matt DeBord officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be his nephews: Tony Smitherman, Terry Smitherman, Ted Smitherman, Anthony Crumley, Jeff Harris and Jonathan Harris. Interment will follow in Chilton Memorial Gardens, Clanton, Alabama. Martin Funeral Home directing.
