James Virgil Smitherman, 93, of Clanton, Alabama passed away April 27, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 4, 1932, in Chilton Co., Alabama, son of the late William Smitherman and the late Minnie Smitherman.
He found great joy in working the land and had a special fondness for John Deere tractors, with a particular love for planting and harvesting okra. His family was his greatest treasure, and he worked tirelessly to provide for them. Wise beyond his years, he offered steady guidance and meaningful advice to all who knew him.
Surviving are his Wife, Betty Ann Smitherman, Sons, Marvin (Gail) Smitherman, Roy Smitherman, Timmy Smitherman; Daughters, Rhonda (Jeff) Littleton, Angel (Wally) Collins; Eleven Grandchildren; Seventeen Great-Grandchildren; A host of Nephews and Nieces.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, William Marvin & Minnie Smitherman; Son, James Barry Chapman; Sisters, Myrtle Littleton, Ruby McCoy, Ruth Littleton; Brothers, Hosey Smitherman, Phillip Smitherman.
Friends will be received Friday, May 1, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at New Harmony Holiness Church.
Services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:00 am. at New Harmony Holiness Church with Rev. Teddy Chadwick & Rev. Miller Lee officiating.
Interment will follow in New Harmony Holiness Cemetery, Clanton, Alabama.
