Janice Ellison Chandler, age 74, of Jemison, Alabama passed on in the home she had made for 52
years on Monday, September 14, 2026.
Born in Jemison, to Eldridge “Bud” and Lorene Porter Ellison on February 4, 1952, her early life
was shaped by her close-knit family. She often told heartwarming and funny stories of her humble
background that included her sister, Jeanette, and brother, Larry (“Rod”). After Rod was paralyzed
as a teenager, she became his caregiver, a role she would embrace in other ways throughout her life.
Jeanette was always her best friend, closest confidant, and bargain shopping partner.
On March 10, 1973, she married the love of her life, Randal Gene Chandler, who had been her high
school sweetheart. When he began his career in Florence, they moved away from Jemison for a short
time before moving home to refurbish the Chandler family home.
Before the arrival of her beloved children, Christina Marie and Randal David, she worked at State
Farm as a keypunch operator, but devoted her life to her children until they went away to college.
She then became a pharmacy technician at Chandler Drugs, the family business, working alongside
her husband until his retirement.
She was an active member of Jemison First Baptist church, often hosting youth gatherings in her
pristine backyard, when her children were active youth group members, and being a longstanding
member of her Sunday School class.
She is survived by her husband Randal, her daughter Chris (Jake) Andrews, son David (Erin)
Chandler, and grandchildren Jonah Andrews and Quintin Chandler. She was preceded in death by
her parents, sister, brother, and grandson Asher Andrews.
A short private graveside service will be held at Midway Memorial Gardens on Friday at 3:00. The
family will celebrate her life with a reception open to family and friends held at the Jemison First
Baptist Fellowship Hall at 4:00..
In lieu of flowers or food, the family requests donations to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home at
www.alabamachild.org home or the Alabama Alzheimer’s Association at Alzheimer's Association /al. The family
wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of SoutherCare New Beacon hospice, especially
Kinsley Veazey, R.N., Savannah Powell, and Latisha Jackson with Right At Home for their
compassionate care and support during Janice’s final days.
