Jean Northcutt Martin

Willie Jean Northcutt Martin, 91, of Jemison died Monday, August 18, 2014 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center, Alabaster. She was born on Friday, August 17, 1923 in Chilton Co., AL, Daughter of the late Lester Northcutt and the late Ferrell Eugene Ellison Northcutt. Mrs. Martin was a Seamstress in the textile industry. She was a graduate of Jemison High School, Class of 1940. She was also a longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and former Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. For 23 years, "Mama Jean" was a teacher's aide at The Mitchell Center in Calera, AL. Surviving are her Daughters, Ms. Dianne M. Childress of Thorsby, AL, Mrs. Beverly M. (Phillip) Popwell of Clanton, AL; Sons, Mr. James C. (Donna) Martin of Alabaster, AL, Mr. William Charles (Terry) Martin, Alabaster, AL; 11 Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren, 3 Great-Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Mr. E.C. Martin; Daughter, Mrs. Jacque M. (Leslie) Jacob; Granddaughter, Miss Kristie Carol Childress; Granddaughter, Miss Holly Elizabeth Popwell; Grandson, Mr. Phillip Martin Popwell. Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Services will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Cemetery, Jemison, AL. Martin Funeral Home directing.
