Jerri R. Childress Compton, 79, of Thorsby, Alabama passed away September 20, 2026, in Thorsby, AL, surrounded by her family.

She was born March 8, 1947, in Alabama, daughter of the late Harold Riggins and the late Rosa Riggins.

Jerri was a devoted daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. To those who knew and loved her best, she was simply known as “Nanny.” Her greatest accomplishment in life was her family. They were her whole heart, her greatest joy, and the legacy she leaves behind. She poured all her love into each of them. When her great grandchildren walked through her doors, you would have thought she had just won the lottery. She worked for years for Alabama Power before retiring, but some of her greatest work happened at home. She was an avid gardener with a true green thumb for growing vegetables and beautiful flowers. She also had a natural talent for interior design and made her space feel beautiful, warm, and inviting. Her home was more than a house, it was a place where people gathered, memories were made, and everyone felt at home. She will forever be loved and missed by those she leaves behind.

Surviving are her Granddaughter, Whitney (Allen) Edwards; Grandson, Brent (Emma) Childress; Great-Granddaughters, Wren Edwards, Alynna Edwards, Lillie Childress;

Great-Grandsons, Ridge Edwards, Tripp Childress.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Harold Riggins; Mother, Rosa Lee Riggins; Son, Rip Childress; Sister, Shirley Plier; Her dear animals, Annie, Bella and Shug.

Services will be held , September 22, 2026, at 1:00 pm. at Thorsby Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Shawn Lowery officiating.

Interment will follow in Thorsby Memorial Cemetery, Thorsby, Alabama.
