John A. Cates, 87, of Clanton died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Merrywood Lodge, Elmore. He was born on Monday, September 28, 1931 in Jefferson Co., AL, Son of the late Reuben Cates and the late Beulah Creel Cates. He was a Truck Driver. Surviving are Wife, Dot Cates of Clanton, AL; Children, Laura Cates of Tulsa, OK, Cathy Dodge of Leeds, AL, Julia (Jim) Maddox of Clanton, AL, David (Liz) Moore of Clanton, AL; 6 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren; Sister, Betty Thornburg of Columbiana, AL. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Reuben & Beulah Cates. Friends will be received from 5-7, Thursday, January 3, 2019 @ Martin Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday, January 4, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at Collins Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. William Kee officiating. Interment will follow in Collins Chapel Cemetery, Thorsby, AL.
