John White Plyler, 92, born June 23, 1921, went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2014 after a wonderful and full life. John was a gentle man who loved his family and friends. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His favorite time of the year was football season and never missed watching the Crimson Tide. John was a member of the Greatest Generation. In WWII he served as a B-17 pilot with the 8th Air Force in England. He and his crew flew 35 combat missions over Europe. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 3 Oakleaf Clusters, and the EAME Theater Medal with 3 bronze stars. He was a former member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills and a current member of Dalraida United Methodist Church of Montgomery, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margie Harris Plyler, daughter, Patricia Plyler, Parents, Barnes & Ada Plyler, Brothers, Douglas Plyler & Barnes Plyler, Jr., Sisters, Pauline, Doris, Pattie Nell & Grace. He is survived by daughters, Suzy (Bill) Buechner and Amy (Bill) Johnson. Grandson, Will Buechner, Jr. & fiance, Jennifer Hollon. Granddaughter, Brigitte (John) Huling and great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sadie Anne, Seth, Rachel Huling. Brother, Don (Jean) Plyler and many nieces & nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 5-7pm at Martin Funeral Home, Clanton, AL. Graveside service will be Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Glenwood Cemetery, Ft. Payne, AL.
