L.H. "Shorty" BATES, 85, of Clanton died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Chilton Medical Center, Clanton. He was born on Saturday, December 13, 1924 in Chilton Co., AL, Son of the late Dee Bates and the late Estelle Caton Bates. He served in WWII and the Korean War. He was a command Master Seargant in the U.S. Army. A faithful member of Glad Tidings Church of God. Also, a charter member of Chilton Co. Cattleman Association. Surviving are his Daughter, Pat Smitherman of Clanton, AL; 2 Sons, Buddy (Brenda) Bates of Clanton, AL, Gary (Judy) Bates of Clanton, AL; 3 Grandsons, Zack (Traci) Bates of Clanton, AL, Kevin "Red Dog" Smitherman of Clanton, AL, Patrick Bates of Clanton, AL. Friends will be received from 5-8, Monday, May 17, 2010 @ Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 11:00 A.M.. at Glad Tidings Church of God with Rev. W.
