Lawrence Eugene (Gene) Jones, Sr., 86, of Verbena died Sunday, October 12, 2008 at his residence. He was born on Wednesday, September 27, 1922 in Chilton Co., AL, Son of the late James Arthur Jones and the late Mamie Robinson Jones. He was an electrician with L & N Railroad, a WWII Veteran and a Deacon of Corinth Baptist Church for 50 years. Surviving are his Wife, Virginia Jones of Verbena, AL; Son, Larry (Sheila) Jones of Verbena, AL; Daughter, Patsy Jones of Verbena, AL; 2 Granddaughters, Wendy (Jeremy) Pierce of Verbena, AL, Kim (Jonathan) Bowen of Verbena, AL; Grandson, Nick Jones of Verbena, AL; Great-Grandchildren, Macey & Michael Pierce of Verbena, AL; Sister, Frances Brown of Irvington, AL. Friends will be received from 5-8, Monday, October 13, 2008 @ Martin Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at 11:00 AM. at Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. Bert Tippett officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Baptist Cemetery, Verbena, AL. Martin Funeral Home directing.
