Leola Holland Payne

Leola Holland Payne went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 16, 2014 at the age of 88 years old. She was born in Dutton, Alabama on November 30, 1925, the daughter of Jeff and Della Holland. She graduated from Jackson County High School in Scottsboro, Alabama and began her career with South Central Bell/ Bell South; retiring in 1979 after 33 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Sherman Payne. She is also survived by her brother J.W. Holland (Sue), step-son Danny Payne (Joyce), step grandsons Bruce and Byron Payne; five step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Jeff and Della Holland; brothers William Holland and Truman Holland; sister Naomi Tucker; half-brothers John Holland, Wilburn Holland, Tom Holland, Gene Holland; half-sisters Mae Thomas, Betty Burnett, and Esther Holland. Leola was a faithful and dedicated member of Lime Springs United Methodist Church. She was a guiding force as Mission Director of the church for many years. Her spirit still leads the church in this area of ministry. Her desire to help others demonstrated throughout her life in many ways. She was also a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. Burial will be at Lime Springs United Methodist Church, October 19. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and the service will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Lime Springs United Methodist Church cemetery. Bro. Jim Shannon will officiate. As requested, all memorials should go to the Lime Springs United Methodist Mission Program.
