Lois Plier Gilmore

Lois Alene Plier Gilmore (93) of Maplesville, AL passed away on May 2, 2024, at home in Maplesville, Alabama.

She was born at home in Jemison on Friday, September 26, 1930, to George A and Callie Williams Plier.  She graduated from Jemison High School in 1948 and attended Montevallo College on a scholarship from the Linley-Heflin Foundation.  Her first teaching job was the fourth grade in Childersburg.  She married John J Gilmore (United States Army) on June 8, 1952, at Camp Cook Chapel in Lompoc, California.

Lois was a housewife until the ‘60s when she returned to teaching and taught at Halstead Elementary in Copperas Cove, Texas.  Moving back to Alabama in the late 60’s she began teaching at Isabella High School and retired there in the early 90’s.  She was an active member of Mount Carmel #2 Maplesville, Alabama.

Surviving her are daughters Cynthia Fuller (Kenneth) of Maplesville, and Patricia Patterson (Stephen) of Randolph; grandchildren-Jonathan Fuller (Katie), Joshua Patterson (Evann), Jared Fuller (Gabriel), John Patterson (Amber), and Beth Morris.  She has 7 great-grandchildren - Tristan, Curtis, Wyatt, Callie, Katie Joe, Ryleigh, and Ayden.   Surviving sisters are Dorothy Golson of Prattville, Faye Griggs of Georgia, and Tommie Mitchell of Jemison, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Husband of 63 years John, Father George A Plier, Mother Callie Plier, her brothers-Durward Plier of Jemison, George Plier of Jemison, and Eirl Plier of Alabaster.

Deep appreciation to Vicki Williamson who accompanied Lois for the last 3 years of her life, Sue Dovie, and Kallai Cedeno, along with the staff of Southern Care-New Beacon Hospice (Anna, Sarah, Tatum).

Visitation will be from 10 AM to 11 AM at Mount Carmel No. 2 in Maplesville; funeral services will follow at 11 AM.
