Loretta Lockhart Cooedy, 87, of Clanton, Alabama passed away November 21, 2024.
She was born March 9, 1937, daughter of the late Fate Lockhart and the late Minnie Rhodes Lockhart Haddox.
She was a life long resident of Chilton County, Alabama, along with her husband of 67 years, the late Willie L. "Buddy" Cooedy. They owned and operated a family farm not far from Clanton in the Highland Church Community. She raised her children on the farm and spent much of her time picking peaches, row planting, and tending the family garden; as well as canning and freezing a wide variety of vegetables. For many years her home served as the gathering place for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other special times with her children, grandchildren, and later great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. In the community she was known for the beatutiful flowers in her yard. From early spring to late fall Mrs. Loretta would have countless flowers blooming in many different varieties and colors. She was a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church for over 60 years until her health no longer allowed her to attend.
Surviving are her children: Son, Allen (Sandy) Cooedy; Son, Johnny (Betty) Cooedy; Daughter, Susan Cooedy (Dave) Hayden, all of Clanton; Son, Steven (Richard Bennett) Cooedy of Birmingham; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Willie "Buddy" L. Cooedy; Infant Son, Bobby Cooedy; Father, Fate Lockhart; Mother, Minnie Rhodes Lockhart Haddox; Brothers, Gene Lockhart, James Lockhart, and Richard Lockhart; Sister, Emily Lockhart Easterling.
Friends will be received Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Highland Baptist Church.
Services will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 3:00 pm. at Highland Baptist Church with Rev. O'neal Cleckler officiating.
Interment will follow in Highland Baptist Cemetery, Clanton, Alabama.
