Margaret Ann Litaker Sansom was born November 3, 1939, to Leo and Bessie Litaker in Verbena Alabama.
As the child of a deaf parent, Margaret learned at an early age to be the interpreter for her mother in everything from interactions at the store, to registering for school and doctor’s appointments. She attended Verbena High School where she excelled and was voted Citizenship girl and Miss De Vena. Her parents stressed to her the importance of education and not getting married before she graduated from school. Ever the rule follower, she finished her last day of school, got married in the afternoon and graduated that evening.
Margaret was a devoted member of first Floyd Baptist church in Verbena Alabama and then Jemison First Baptist Church in Jemison. She attended faithfully until she could no longer physically attend, then she watched the services online up until her passing, following along in her bible. She loved her church, and she loved her Lord, telling everyone she came in contact with in her last days that she was excited to go meet Jesus.
Margaret’s second love was her family. Nothing brought her greater joy than to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She could always be depended on to host the family for holidays and Alabama games, babysit grandchildren and serve as a pitstop after school when needed. Many of her grandkids’ friends affectionately referred to her as “Mamaw”. She never missed an event when she was able and would be the fiercest champion for her family.
Margaret passed away peacefully at 8:35 a.m. on February 17, 2024 after years of battling Polymyositis and the ravaging effects it had on her body. She was surrounded by her family and a host of heavenly angels that escorted her to Heaven to reunite with her loved ones that passed. Although there are tears here with those she left behind, we also rejoice that she is in Heaven in a healed body.
Margaret is survived by her children, Laura (Steve) Pate, Ken (Brenda) Sansom and Sharon Smith. Grandchildren, Derek (Leigha) Pate, Stefanie Dearman, Brandon (Deidre) Sansom, Lauchlan (Brad) Cary, Madison Smith, and Sawyer Smith.
