Marion Daniel “Dan” Nolen, Jr., age 91, of Clanton, Alabama, passed away on March 7, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 19, 1934, in Montgomery, Alabama. Dan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. Dan was known for his integrity, community leadership, generosity, and genuine love for people.
Dan graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956. He and his wife, Jane Allison Sulzby Nolen, were married in 1958. After his graduation from Auburn University in 1960 with a degree in forestry, they lived in Hamilton, Alabama, before settling in Clanton in 1964.
Dan spent his professional career in the forestry industry, serving as one of the owners of Bama Wood.
Dan’s legacy in Clanton extended far beyond his professional life. He was deeply involved in civic and community leadership, receiving numerous awards and recognitions for his service. His contributions included long time leadership roles with the YMCA of Chilton County, the Clanton Kiwanis Club, the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce, and the Chilton Auburn Club.
Dan’s faith in the Lord and his leadership at Clanton First Methodist Church were of paramount importance in his life. He served his church with generosity and dedication in roles ranging from organizing the Methodist Men’s Pancake Day to tending the church grounds, and countless acts of service in between.
Dan is survived by his three children:
• Danelle (Chris) Glasscock of Kingsport, TN
• Dana (Jeff) Langford of Homewood, AL
• Mark Daniel (Mary Ann) Nolen of Clanton, AL
His grandchildren were a great joy in his life:
Allison Glasscock (Kevin) Fiorini, Will Daniel (Elysia) Glasscock, Kellen John (Victoria) Glasscock;
Nolen Trent (Betsy) Langford, Jane Ann Langford, Alyssa Kathryn Langford;
Sara Nolen (David) Hardenbergh, and Grace Ann Nolen.
He is also survived by his great grandchildren: Samuel, Ruth, and Jackson Fiorini; Charlotte and Knox Glasscock; and baby Langford, expected in June 2026.
Dan was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Jane Sulzby Nolen, and his sisters Betty Rose (John) Hansen and Janie Sue Grimm. He is also survived by his sister, Joy Montgomery Casteel of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and his brother, Benny F. Nolen of Clanton, AL, his brother in law, Charles Grimm of Hixson, TN, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, dear friends, and especially his church family at First Methodist Church of Clanton.
Friends will be received from 12:00-2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at First Methodist Church of Clanton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at First Methodist Church with Rev. Wes Kelley officiating. Interment will follow at Martin Memorial Cemetery, Clanton, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Methodist Church, 207 8th St. N, Clanton, AL 35045. Martin Memorial Home is directing.
