Mary Nell Poland

Mary Nell Poland, 80, of Maplesville, Alabama, passed away January 3, 2020, at Hatley Health Care in Clanton, Alabama. She was born May 2, 1939, to the late James W. Veazey and the late Florence Cummings Veazey. A 1957 graduate of Isabella High School, Ms. Poland was a beloved, lifelong English teacher who retired from Long County High School in Ludowici, Georgia, in 1992. She was passionate about music, art, and her faith in Christ. Surviving are her children Douglas (Kaylynn) Poland, James (Paige) Poland, Nelda (Jay) LeCroy, and Clarice (Jim) Shuman; and step-daughter, Dawn (Earl) Wisman; Brothers, Jack Poland, Dee Poland; Sister, Annette (Clark) Veazey; Sisters-in-Law, Jean Poland, Dorothy Veazey; 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Nell Poland was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Poland, her parents, and two of her siblings, Novie Jean Veazey Bray and Bobby Veazey. Friends will be received Wednesday, January 8, 2020, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for visitation at Mulberry Baptist Church, followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. with David Bishop and Andy Mims officiating. Interment will follow in Mulberry Baptist Cemetery, Maplesville, Alabama. Martin Funeral Home is directing.
