Maxine Smith

Edna Maxine Messer Smith passed away on September 2, 2016 at her home in Clanton, Alabama. She was a Christian and a loving wife and mother. Maxine was the first married student that was admitted to the Birmingham Baptist School of Nursing, and she graduated in 1965. She graduated from Samford University in 1978 with a BSN. She was a charter member of Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society of Nursing. After a successful career in nursing, she opened a successful real estate office in Clanton. She was owner and broker of Max 1 Realty. She was a member of the Million Dollar Sales Club. Maxine is survived by her husband of 65 years, William Hershel Smith. She has three sons: William Randal Smith (Pam), Steven Mack Smith (Nancy), Mark Hershel Smith and one daughter, Michele Smith Hagler. She has a host of grandchildren and one great grand-daughter. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Clanton. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., and the services with Rob West officiating will be at 11:00 a.m. Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the First Methodist Church building fund Martin Funeral Home directing.
