Stubborn, playful, and fiercely dedicated to those she loved, Peggy Headley, 70, passed away at Grandview Medical Center on May 12, 2026. She was born on April 6, 1956 to the late A.D. and Geraldean (Payton) Headley. The youngest of seven children, she knew how to command attention and get her way. She became a woman who can best be described as a combination of light and love with spunk and attitude. She used her beautiful voice to uplift others and glorify God in song. She also held many positions in her life, but she fulfilled her lifelong desire to be a teacher by teaching those around her to laugh, love, and survive with grit and grace (most of the time).
Peggy was an encourager. She loved Jesus and often shared her faith with others, especially with her children—a testament to her unwavering love for God and her family. The most wonderful mother, she provided a life, no matter the circumstances, that was loving, happy, and fun. She created a Christian home as a single mother where Jesus was always at the center. She is now at His feet after showing the strength of a warrior—fussing, smiling, and sometimes flirting through doctor visits and various other personal trials.
She is now rejoicing in heaven with her parents, infant son, James Matthew “Little Matt” Connell, sister, Lucy Headley, sister, Joyce Gore, sister Patsy Gore, and son-in-love, Mike Chancellor. She will be lovingly and deeply mourned by son, Nathan (Connie) Connell, daughter, Bethanie “Bessie” Chancellor, granddaughters, who were “her girls”, Bella, Eva, and Leia Connell, grandsons, Lawson “the Lawman” a.k.a. her “country lovin’ man” and Peyton Chancellor, sister, Shirley Bright, brother, Carl (Joan) Headley, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received Friday, May 15, 2026, from 11:00 P.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Collins Chapel Baptist Church. Services will be held Friday, May 15, 2026, at 12:00 P.M. at Collins Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Ben Nelson of Collectivus Church officiating. Interment to follow. In celebration of her vibrant life and attitude, the family asks all attendees wear a shade of blue or any bright, happy color of their choosing.
