Robert Clinton Arnold

March 24, 1942 — July 20, 2025

Clanton

Robert Clinton Arnold, 83, of Clanton, Alabama, passed away on July 20, 2025, while receiving inpatient care at the VA in Birmingham, Alabama.

He was born on March 24, 1942, in Clanton, Alabama.

He is survived by his daughter, Kristen Arnold; his grandson, Andrés Arnold; his niece and nephews, Audra, Gary, and Mark Edwards, as well as several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Clinton Arnold; mother, Mary Carr Mims Arnold; Sister, Carol Edwards.

A proud patriot, Robert, served honorably in the United States Army from 1963-1966. He was especially fond of his time stationed in Germany, a place that remained close to his heart and was frequently featured in the stories he loved to tell. After completing his active duty, he continued serving at the Pentagon for three months, followed by a year at the Defense Intelligence Agency, where he held Top Secret clearance and was responsible for sending military materials around the world.

Upon returning home to Alabama, he attended the University of Alabama where he met Lynn Cox Arnold, Kristen's mother. After college, he helped his mother manage and lease their family farm and later became her devoted caregiver until her passing.

Robert loved listening to Southern Gospel music and going to “gospel singings” whenever he could. He served on the board of the Chilton County Emergency Assistance Center.

Robert was most proud of his grandson, Andrés, who brought so much joy to his life. He especially enjoyed spending time with him, as well as his daughter, Kristen, and their dog, Christmas. The four of them did many things together, including road trips to take Andrés back to college. The most recent was a trip earlier this month where he and the dog drove Andrés and Kristen to Atlanta to watch Andrés’ favorite football (soccer) team, Borussia Dortmund. Because the team is based in Germany, the trip brought Robert particular joy-it gave him yet another chance to reminisce about his Army days stationed there.

“Grandaddy”, as his immediate family called him, was deeply loved by all three of them and will be dearly missed by all.
