Robert Donald "Bobby" Lane, 98, of Clanton, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City, Alabama. Born on January 24, 1928, in Alabama, he was the beloved son of the late Milford Lane and Annie Lane.
Bobby was known for his remarkable craftsmanship as a woodworker, a vocation that not only defined his career but also highlighted his patience, skill, and dedication to his craft. His attention to detail and love for working with his hands left an indelible mark on his community and those who appreciated his work. He was a longtime member of the Clanton Lions Club, where he dedicated many hours to the Chilton County Peach Festival.
A proud veteran, Bobby honorably served his country in the army. His commitment to service extended beyond his military years, and he remained a steadfast supporter of fellow veterans throughout his life.
He is survived by his nieces: Barbara Lane (George) Mobbs, Deborah Lane, Rebecca Lane (Jay) Nagle, Billie (Carmon) Colvin, Carolyn Schindler, and Judy (Larry) Bowen. Bobby was also blessed with the love and support of his adopted family, Jimmy and Marlaine Norman, as well as a host of other family members.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Johnnie Martin Lane; his father, Milford Heyman Lane; his mother, Annie J. Lane; and his brother, Wilford Lane.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Clanton Christian Life Center, with Rev. Garry Jones officiating. Martin Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. The family warmly invites friends and loved ones to join in remembering and honoring Bobby’s life. No flowers, please make donations to Bill Nichols State Veterans Home, 1784 Elkahatchee Road, Alexander City, AL 35010. Make checks payable to Bill Nichols State Veterans Fund.
