Ruby Hayes Thigpen, 99, of Clanton, Alabama passed away January 15, 2025, at Hatley Health Care in Clanton, AL.
She was born March 3, 1925, in Kentucky, daughter of the late Charlie Hayes and the late Rebecca Hayes.
She was the next to the youngest of seven children.
Ruby worked in Oak Ridge, TN on what she would later find out to be the atomic bomb. Later, she worked for the Farmer's Home Administration, from where she retired. Ruby attended First Baptist Church in Clanton for many years. She was known for her welcoming spirit and great cooking.
Surviving are her Son, James "Jet" Elliot (Cindy) Thigpen, Grandchildren, Stephen Stokes, Van (Katelyn) Thigpen, Elizabeth McDonnell, 5 Great- Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Charlie Hayes; Mother, Rebecca Shepard Hayes; Husband, Elliott "Butch" Van Note Thigpen; Daughters, Vicki Stokes, Vanessa Thigpen; Son, Jody Thigpen; Grandson, Scott Stokes; and six of her siblings.
Friends will be received Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be held Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Speaks and Rev. Justin Nelson officiating.
Interment will follow in Chilton Memorial Gardens, Clanton, Alabama.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Ruby's close friends for their unwavering dedication and love for her, especially these last two years.
